Live poker at Fallsview Casino.
I had mentioned in my last blog that I wasn't going to play any poker until i was feeling it. Well that apparently didn't apply to live poker.
I woke up and jumped on my computer and I had a message from my friend saying Gambling? I took that as him asking if I wanted to go. I of course say yes. I talk to him and he actually was asking me if I was gambling at that moment which he often does and which I often am :) Well since I asked him now he says yes and we are off to Niagara Falls shortly after.
We get there and the tables are full, they open a new game for us because they know we run the place. j/k.
The table is full off a lot of tight bad players. First hand I limp call with K9o after a few limpers and flop trip kings and win without showdown vs a good player. But after this I pick up no real hands for a long time. I manufacture some pots with steals etc. I missed every flush draw, I hit 1 straight a few top pair hands, flopped top and bottom in an unraised pot on monotone board and had to fold river, some ladyfish calls the doods 3rd barrel for almost pot with 1 pair after I fold and he shows his T6hh for the scoop.
I played pretty badly overall and was for some reason kind of playing way too passive compared to my normal style. I picked up AKo 2 times during the day and didn’t 3 bet it either time, I proceeded to lose a 450$ pot the second time and win a 40$ pot the first time….hmmm.
The 2nd one UTG raises and he has shown down good hands only, I call UTG+1 (I would normally 3 bet the fish cause they won’t fold but he was semi ok and didn’t want everyone to just fold so I could pick up one raise. 3 or 4 callers. Flop KcTc8s. Pre flop raiser cbets 15$, I call, old dood who has been super aggressive (about 75 years old) to 50$, I’m kinda confused, He probably doesn’t have a set but 2 pair is possibility and with his aggressiveness I can see him having a Flush draw or straight draw in some spots. I shove for 180$ more or something like that, he thinks for a second and calls with K8. DOH. 1 person says they folded an ace, another a T, I’m drawing slim and lose a big pot.
A couple hands later I play a pot vs the same old guy. I have about 220$ left after the last pot.
I have T8o and limp after a limper. Old agro guy is in late pos and limps. Flop comes J87r. I bet 7$ with my 2nd pair and gutter ball and get called in 2 spots. 1 to my right and the old guy. Turn is a 9. Checked to me and I fire after a few seconds of thought about 23$. Old guy calls quickly and guy to my right folds. River is a 4d so I have the second nuts still. I think again for maybe 2 seconds and quickly fire out 65$ and put my head down and pull my hat over my face and start to act very nervous, he calls after a few seconds and says “lets see what you go” I show my straight and scoop.
One other hand I played very badly was one of my last hands.
I have 22 and limp UTG 10 handed. I have about 300$ behind. Good player 4 to my left raises to 7$ and gets 5 callers. Flop comes QJ2. BINGO. Good player to my direct right donk leads 20$, I’m thinking he must have QJ in this spot cause I can’t picture him firing anything else. I call hoping to get a raise from the good preflop raiser then the guy to my right will hopefully shove and I can make the easy call. He screws me and calls instead. That kind of worries me about a set. Turn is a 10. DAMN IT. Now the pre flop raiser would definitely have called there with AK and he has position. This is bad. Guy to my right leads again for 20$ again, now I’m very sure he had QJ (top 2). I don’t want to make a raise at this point and get pushed off my hand by a big shove by the preflop raiser. He confuses me again and just calls. WTF can he have now? Cuase I know it isn’t broadway. River is a blank and guy to my right checks, I check hoping preflop raiser will fire with AQ or something and get a call from the guy to my right and I can raise at that point. He checks behind and screws me yet again. I think I played this pretty badly from start to finish. I could have got the donk bettors whole stack on the flop had I raised. Although he had just flat called a turn bet by me before with the nuts and missed out on my whole stack in an earlier hand so he’s kind of a proponent for slow playing bigger hands before the river.
Oh well. It was a roller coaster of a day (4 hrs) and I finished up 55$. Not very good. I could have been 500+ had I played better.
Such is life.
SuperBowl XLII was pretty great last night.
I got to watch the second half after our dodgeball games. I was cheering for NY Giants because I always root for the underdog.
